BDCC Reading & Discussion Group
Dear Folks,
The Beverly Democrats reading and discussion group will meet on Wednesday, September 22, at 7:30 PM, via Zoom. At this meeting, we’ll be exploring the topic of political affiliation and how it unites and divides us. Beyond the basic Democrat/Republican distinctions, we will look at issues, identities, and historical antecedents that drive our current political alignments and priorities.
As background and a framework for our discussion, we invite all participants to read an article by George Packer, “How America Fractured Into Four Parts,” published in The Atlantic. It provides insights into the factors that have shaped our identities and how those identities have changed in the last half-century or so, increasingly coming into conflict.
For the time being, we are continuing to meet via Zoom. Meetings are open to all, and newcomers are especially encouraged to come. We look forward to seeing many of you on September 22!
