Democratic State Caucus - become a delegate to the state convention, and help set the party platform for the next four years.
Our caucus will be in the Sohier Room (downstairs program room) at the Beverly Public Library at 10 AM. The caucus is open to all registered Beverly Democrats. The purpose of the caucus is to select delegates from each ward to participate at the State Convention in Springfield on June 5-6, 2009. This is an issues convention and the Keynote Speaker is David Plouffe, who was President-Elect Obama's Campaign Manager. According to the Massachusetts Democratic Party's caucus letter from Chairman John Walsh, "David will share the insights he garnered during the campaign and his vision for where we need to go as a party to build on those successes. Anyone who marveled at the campaign won't want to miss this opportunity to hear from the man who made it happen!" Chairman Walsh also says, "At the convention, delegates from every ward and town will consider and adopt our platform for the next four years."
Most of the Convention takes place on Saturday, June 6th. As in 2008, there will be a Youth Convention for high school students, in which they can "enjoy a program of workshops designed especially for them with an eye to welcoming the next generation of Democratic community organizers." If you would like more information about the convention or the caucus, please attend our regular meeting on the 13th, or let me (bhannable@comcast.net, 978-922-7190) or Duane Anderson (duanderson@hotmail.com, 978-922-2368) know.
Please note, under the rules passed by the DSC, it is possible for a person who is interested in being a dalegate to run, even if he or she can not be present at the caucus. This can only occur if there are not enough interested Democrats present who would like to run.
