Caucus on March 10, 2018

February 27th, 2018 by secretary in Announcements
The Beverly Democratic City Committee is holding a Caucus for *registered Democrats on Sat., March 10, in the Barnet Gallery room at the Beverly Public Library, 32 Essex St., at 10 AM (please arrive at least 15 minutes early), to elect delegates, by their wards, to the State Convention to be held in Worcester on June 2. Beverly can elect a total of 19 regular delegates, plus alternate delegates at our Caucus. (Alternates get to vote at the Convention if regular delegates are unable to for some reason.) This year delegates will vote to determine which statewide candidates will be on the Democratic ticket in the 2018 Primary Election in September, so we will be choosing nominees for governor and all our constitutional officers. (Note, caucus was originally scheduled for March 3, but was postponed because of the storm.)

In addition to being elected as regular delegates and alternate delegates, it’s also possible to become an add-on delegate in one of these four categories:  Youth (under 35), Disabled, Minority and LGBTQ. While you do not have to attend the Caucus to be an add-on, preference will be given to those who do attend the Caucus. Add-on forms will be available at the Caucus.

The fee to be a delegate or alternate is $75; $50  for senior/student/disabled. Deadline to pay fee is 4/20/18, after which a $25 late fee will apply. Forms will be provided at the Caucus.
If anyone is unable to pay the delegate fee, a waiver can be requested, and such requests are nearly always approved. Fee Waiver application forms will also be available at the Caucus.
Parking at or near the library will be limited, so this is a reminder to feed the meters/kiosks so that you don’t get a ticket. Please allow a couple of hours for the Caucus, and be inside the downstairs meeting room no later than 9:45 AM.

*Although it will be possible to register at the caucus, we urge all who are planning to attend to make sure their registrations as Democrats are in order prior to the caucus. We anticipate a good turnout and want to avoid problems as best we can.
